Blast from the Past

Here are some blasts from the past images.  The one with Paul and Joan was on December 30, 1997, when it snowed in Tallahassee.  Paul told me that he had called in sick that day to go sailing. Hope his boss didn’t read the democrat!

Summer Series 2026

This year’s summer series is off to a great start.  We’ve had 20 different sailors participate.  Because there is  no registration for these races, we have been writing down names of people instead of sail numbers.

This past race had one sailor not able to get his centerboard down, yet he managed to finish the race and when he got to the beach, the centerboard came right out the bottom, and another sailor raced the entire last race without a fin.  I’m guessing he was having too easy a time with a fin.

Scoring has the same score for Did Not Start (DNS) and Did Not Finish (DNF).  Usually, a DNS is total number registered plus 1 whereas a DNF is total finishers plus 1.  Since we have no registration for the Summer Series, if 6 people finish and I have others that sat out but have raced in the past, they would all get sevens.  On Sunday, the wind was wicked, so not everyone sailed every race, so if only 2 people raced the last race, all the other people in that fleet that didn’t race would get threes. The key to winning the summer series is to race as many races as you can.
