This five-year old Series is supported and recognized by USW, and consists of ten (10) windsurfing regattas in Florida and Georgia that are designated each year as regional points regattas. The events are run independently within a stipulated set of rules and a framework intended to accomodate the current state of windsurfing competition. The Organizing Authority of the Series consists of Paul Hansard (Shell Point Sailboard Club and USW Southeast Region Director), Jim Mills of Fleet 12 Tampa Bay Windsurfers, and Wright Finney (Shell Point Sailboard Club and USW Treasurer). Corporate sponsors for 2005 include Sandy Point Progressive Sports and Watersports West.

Events

2.1 The ten (10) events that compose the 2005 Southeast Series will be run by a club or shop in accordance with the current 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (ISAF), including Appendix B, and relevant class rules for Prodigy and Formula.
2.2 Series events will be at least two days long, with racing to be scheduled on both days (wind permitting). Three races are required to constitute an event in the Series.
2.3 Event organizers are strongly encouraged to follow accepted Class guidelines in determining fair racing conditions.

Series Registration
3.1 To be eligible for participation in the Series, competitors must be members of US Windsurfing.
3.2 Any eligible competitor who enters one of the Southeast Series events and provides the requisite demographic information to the event organizer will be automatically entered in the Series and will be scored. There is no separate registration for the Series.

Individual Regatta Responsibility
4.1 Event scoring will follow the strictures of the Racing Rules of Sailing (ISAF). The scores for DNS, DNF, etc. should adhere to the rules spelled out in the RRS.
4.2 Scoring at Series events should be done using a computer spreadsheet, if at all possible. The Series recommends the excel-based scoring program developed by Bill Ehrreich of the South Florida Board Sailing Association, available at http://www.billmiami.com/regattascoring.aspx.
4.3 No event will be included on the Series schedule unless the Regatta Organizer agrees to provide competitor demographics and their results to the Series Organizer within one week of the completion of their event.

Series Scoring
5.1 Class scores from Series events will be used to determine intermediate and final rankings. For each event, the Series points will be calculated by dividing the competitor’s overall Class ranking for the event by the number of competitors in that Class. For example, if a competitor places 3rd in a Class of 30 racers, then his/her Series score for that event would be 0.1 (i.e. 3 divided by 30).
5.2 For each Class event that a competitor misses, a default score of 2.0 points will be awarded. To avoid receiving a default score for an event, competitors must finish and be scored in at least one race at that event. An exception will be made for an event that fails to hold three races for one or more Classes; in this case, Class participants will receive 1.5 points for that event, rather than the default score of 2.0.
5.3 The final Series score will be the sum of the 5 lowest (best) event scores (including default scores). The competitor with the lowest total score (highest ranking) at the end of the Series will win his/her respective Class, provided the competitor meets the requirements specified in 8.2.
5.4 A competitor need not race in the same Class at every event, and it is possible for a competitor to maintain Series rankings in more than one Class. However, the event default scores will apply to all Classes entered in the Series, so that it will be in a competitor’s best interest to complete at least 5 events in one Class. In no case will standings from different Classes be merged.

Series Fleets
6.1 Series Classes will include the following “A-Fleet” classes: Formula 3-1 (sponsored by Sandy Point Progressive Sports), Prodigy (sponsored by Watersports West), and Longboard. For those regattas not offering a specific Longboard Class, Longboard Class scores will be taken from the Open Class results. Sport Fleet classes may include, Sport Longboard, Sport Formula, and Sport Prodigy depending upon participation. These Classes may be further subdivided into Divisions at the end of the Series (see 8.1).

Series Results Posting
7.1 Race results and S-E Series standings will be posted to this web site and will be updated after each event.

Series Trophies & Prizes
8.1 Depending on participation, the Series Classes may be subdivided into Divisions by the Series Organizers, based on the number of entrants in each gender, weight, age, and/or sail size classification. The Series organizers will be the sole judge of determining these Divisions.
8.2 To be eligible for Trophies and Prizes, a racer must have participated in a minimum of three (3) Series events, and be a member of US Windsurfing, effective October 15, 2005.
8.3 Trophies will be provided by US Windsurfing and the Shell Point Sailboard Club. First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded in each Class/Division. Trophies and prizes will be presented at the Suncoast Classic Regatta in St. Petersburg in November 2005.
8.4 In addition to Class/Division trophies, gift certificates to Watersports West in the amounts of $100, $50, $40, $30, $20 will be awarded to the top 5 winners of the Prodigy Class, courtesy of Watersports West.
8.5 In addition to Class/Division trophies, gift certificates to Sandy Point Progressive Sports in the amounts of $100, $50, $25 will be awarded to the top 3 winners of the Formula Class, courtesy of Sandy Point Progressive Sports.
