Chris Graves, SPSC Commodore, 2016

Commodore's Rambling December 2016

Peace Out,

As I take leave, I reflect back on an exciting year as your commodore.

As commodore I challenged myself to go to as many events as possible so I could to see how windsurfing was fairing. The Kona fleet at Clearwater gave me high hopes that windsurfing and long boarding will be around for a long time to come. I am encouraged by the folks, often my senior, that kick my butt.

Mary will be a great leader and has been a generous donor to the club over the years. Our very capable board will guide her steadily throughout the year.

We live in one of the most beautiful areas in the world. I encourage all club members to get out and explore the variety around us. There isn’t much time left.

Past Commodore’s Muddled Memory

What a great Festivus we had even though our commodore couldn’t make it.  Rumor has it he was to scared to face the challenge from the Commodore to be.  The weather was great, the fire was wonderful and warming, and the company was the best!  In rounding out a Festivus, we did have our Festivus miracle, thanks to Richard Hill, Perry erected (yes, that’s the word I chose to use) a wonderful aluminum Festivus pole in keeping with the tenants of the day.  There was an attempt at feats of strength, with all the manly men lining up on two sides of a stuck mast, and twisting to try and get them apart.  Didn’t happen, but the effort was definitely there.

Getting back to the Commodore not showing and the incoming commodore with no challenger; many wise ones in the group felt that I should be the Commodore’s second for two reasons; one, I am past commodore (apparently not far enough past), and two, the current Commodore is my younger brother and that’s what big brothers do.  So, we had to compete in something.   Being that I have five granddaughters and Mary is a hair stylist, we decided to compete in braiding hair.  Mary said something about French braids, but I figured if we both did French braids, we’d both just give up at some point.  We found two willing participants in Laurie and Laura?  I lost.
