Commodore's Corner - February 2010
Hard to believe that January has come to a close.
There will be NO monthly club meeting in February. The trip to
Fiesta Key is a few days away, February 4 - 14 and the Wind Ceremony
is coming up rather quickly.
Speaking of the Keys trip, the rumors are afloat of a new attraction
to further entertain the campers at Fiesta Key. Apparently the
Taj will be transformed in to a fully functional theatre and the
feature film is The Blues Brothers! I'm pretty sure we will have
our usual "movie night" and a trip to Key West to observe
the wonderfully diverse cultures while biking along Duval Street.
Swami and the Festoons will most certainly be ready for the Wind
Ceremony as Swami has now called for practice 2 nights a week!
That's a sure sign that the Wind Ceremony is truly right around
the corner. Swami and the Festoons will have the crowd on the
dance floor with some oldie but goodies along with a few new toons
this year. Make sure you mark your calendar for the Wind Ceremony
event. We will be having a Chili cookoff so get those chili recipes
out and mix up a batch if you would like to participate! Festoons!!
Keep your eye on the website for more information as the event
date quickly approaches.
I am Fiesta Key bound . . . your "Commodora"!
2010 Wind Ceremony

The 2010 Wind Ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 20. We
will have a Chili Cook-off this year so break out your best recipe
and bring a batch (at least a gallon please) if you would like to
participate in the contest. If you do not wish to participate, please
bring something to go with the Chili, your own special dish or a
dessert. The Club will provide chopped onions, cheese, Fritos, crackers
and softdrinks.
Pack your coolers, bring your chairs and come toss your wishes
to the Wind Gods so we may be blessed with another year of windy
days at Shell Point Beach!!
Registration starts at 3:00pm
Chili Judging at 5:00pm
Dinner at 6:00pm
Swami & the Festoons around 8:00pm

Our Dad Taught Us A Few Things
Chuck's (Swami) Dad past away last Sunday in his sleep a few hours after
having lunch with Chuck and his brother GG...he was 92. This is
a poem he wrote and read at the service.
OUR DAD TAUGHT US A FEW THINGS
By: CAMERON CHARLES “CHUCK” KOHLHAGEN JR.
OUR DAD TAUGHT US TO WALK
I EVEN THINK HE TAUGHT US TO TALK
DAD TAUGHT US TO RIDE A BIKE
TO BUILD AND FLY A KITE
DAD TAUGHT US TO BE KIND TO ANIMALS ALL
AND PICK OURSELVES UP AFTER A FALL
HE TAUGHT US HOW TO TIE OUR SHOE
AND WALK THROUGH A PASTURE AND NOT STEP IN POO
HE TAUGHT US TO FISH AND BAIT A HOOK
TO FRY EGGS & BACON LIKE A SHORT ORDER COOK
DAD TAUGHT US TO EAT WITH A KNIFE AND FORK
YOU KNOW, CUT YOUR STEAK WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE A DORK
OUR DAD TAUGHT US TO COOK ON THE GRILL
IF YOU DON’T GET IT BY NOW, DAD THOUGHT EATIN’ WAS
A THRILL
OUR DAD TAUGHT US TO SWIM
AND SHOOT BASKETBALLS IN THE GYM
DAD TAUGHT US TO DRIVE AND CHANGE A TIRE
GO CAMPING AND BUILD A FIRE
I KNOW HE TAUGHT US TO GRIN
BECAUSE WHEN WE DO, EVERYONE SAYS WE LOOK LIKE HIM
DAD TAUGHT US, I THINK, TO HAVE A FIT
BUT ALSO TO STICK TO THAT JOB AND DO IT
AS WE GET OLDER THIS MIGHT SOUND LIKE LITTLE STUFF
BUT ADD IT ALL UP, TO MAKE IT THROUGH, WHEN THINGS GET RUFF
