Commodore's Comments

By Amy Crowson

Hope everyone had a wonderful Passover – Easter week. The warm weather was here and should return this week hopefully to stay. Please note, I said warm weather, not hot and speaking of good weather and a good time…

Wind Ceremony
Let’s clap for the Swami, the Festoons, Jack M. and all those who helped make this one of the Best Wind Ceremonies. This year’s event was another first for the club as we have freed ourselves from having to hire a sound crew by purchasing a sound board. Rick K. was the sound guy and I have to say it was fabulous actually hearing the words of the songs. Jack did a great job organizing and chronicling the event; check out Jack’s article for the real story.

Stephen C. Smith Memorial Regatta
The 34th Smith Regatta will be held the 27th through 29th of April. The event sponsored by SPSC, Apalachee Bay Yacht, and the American Cancer Society raises money for the Cancer Society. Check out the web page for the event and come out for the sailing, beach fun and of course the now infamous Auction.

Beach News
As many of you discovered at the Wind Ceremony, the new beach bathrooms are complete and we now have a storage space on the beach. This is good news for all of you who teach lessons for the club. Many of our club members have been painting and fixing up the space for our equipment. The past commodore’s lounge committee has been instrumental in keeping the club informed about the beach changes. Lately, they have been working hard to get power, water, and phone service for the club. Give this group and those who have helped them a big thank you as they have put in a lot of hours and hard work getting the beach ready for the Smith Regatta.

Nimby
In case you have not been paying attention the annual Not In My Back Yard Regatta will be held in Port St. Joe, the weekend of June 16th this year. Wright has made lodging arrangements for a club at the Port Inn on US 98. Space is limited and many of us have already mad reservations. So don’t wait any longer to make yours if you want to attend. Check the Nimby page for more information.

Sadly, the final note once again ends with news of a death. Sarah Harris’s father passed away suddenly after a procedure he had last month. While it is a blessing that he was healthy and happy in his last days the family will always miss his presence. Let’s keep Sarah, Tigger, George, Harrison and their family in our hearts and prayers as they learn to find solace in their special memories.
