Commodore's Comments

By Amy Crowson

Welcome to 2007 and may it be a great year for our SPSC friends and families. This year looks to be a busy one for the club; one that should bring lots of improvements to the beach and growth in the Shell Point Community.

During the last few years the club has been fortunate to have had new and veteran board members bring a renewed spirit to the club and its activities. This year’s board however is the essence of this spirit of renewal combined with experience and commitment. It is my hope that as we reclaim and rebuild our home on the beach we also bring this same spirit to our membership and events.

I feel it is a privilege as your commodore to reintroduce the board.

The Club this year will be developing and organizing the building of a new past commodores hut, recreating our presence and home on the beach. We will be teaching lessons, hosting events (which include the 20th Annual Endless Summer), enjoying sunsets and of course sailing.

Another change that will happen this year will occur quietly but hopefully not overlooked as Pam and Paul take a break from being our web masters. Pam and Paul have been the life blood of one of the clubs most powerful lines of communication. The creativity, design, commitment and hard work they have given to the club through the web services have kept us informed and connected even when we have been far away from the center of activity. Thank you, Paul and Pam, for creating and maintaining this fabulous and totally function web site.

And for those who are interested, the web site will still have the same flair and function. Paul and Pam are working out the transition of the site over to Deb. The main page and functions will all remain the same with Deb updating some old information and maintaining the site.

One final note, as many of you know, I am not the best writer and tend to be a bit on the boring side of things. To counteract this dull part of the newsletter Deb and I have agreed to search the web for quirky fun sites to bring a little entertainment. This month we will see how trendy our parents were when they named us, check out some crazy windsurfing dudes and see a new twist on an old classical favorite. Hopefully these entries will be entertaining and encourage more communication among our windsurfing family. Also, please feel free to participate in these offerings to the newsletter.

The best to all of you and let us hope our annual offerings at the Wind Ceremony entice the Wind Deities to be generous with the sailing conditions as we strengthen our presence on the beach.
