Rum and Root Beer Cheers

Cheers to all those who participated in this years Caribbean Rum and Root Beer. The event was great fun with close to 50 members and participants on the beach playing games, eating dinner and enjoying Bahama Mama’s in coconuts. Thank you to all those who came, played and helped with the event.

Team 4 (Rick K., Bob G., Tina M., Allison U., Stephanie, and Bob A.) took home first place. Dave Denmark won 1st place points for his team by winning the Root Beer Chug.

The Caribbean Hat and Tacky Tourist contestants were absolutely fabulous. The contestants did such a good job the judges (Mark V. and Sharman F) had a difficult job choosing a winner. Lizzie Denmark’s hat with her grandfather’s head taking center stage won the grand prize. Lee and Leah took home all the fruit for being the happy tacky couple.

Honorable Mentions for the Hat contest include include: Denise Waters, Leah Chapin and Chris Hill. Honorable Mentions for the Tacky Tourist include: The Waters, Tigger,….Be sure to see the photos.

Our celebratory hats come off for those who helped make this years event one to remember. Don and Sharman who found such fabulous beach bags. Tigger was brilliant in his MC capacity and keeping order through out the days events. Bob kept us in the Caribbean spirit with great island music. Dave and Lizzie who brought the grill while Joe superbly grilled some awesome chicken for dinner. Lee and Leah were impressive with the running of the domino’s game; I sure learned a lot. Tina, Kathy, and Mark filled in for Janice doing a fine job with registration and Ann and Guy kept us cool with plenty of ice.

A special thanks goes out to my gal Deb whose leadership, planning and love of a good party led the way; this event would have been pretty lame with out her. Also, thanks to Skip “the coconut cutter” Sawyer for all his help and the ingenious coconut clamp. For all those who keep asking…I’m working on him becoming a member.
