And Now For Something Completely Different...
By Tigger Gray
It has come to my
attention that my golf handicap has lowered recently. It’s also the case that I haven’t seen much
of Jack lately! Coincidence? Me thinks
not. Anyway, minutes
from the last meeting at Beef O’Bradys: Colin Spitzer
turned up. Urged on by the wrath of Rum and Root Beer
Regatta: The Rum and Root
Beer regatta/ reunion was a blast! The
games on the beach were such a success we’re looking to see if they might work
for the non-sailors (Jack) who hang on the beach during the Endless Summer
etc.. It appears that we
made $200 on the day and that’s just as well because we’re gonna be supporting
the Southeast Series again with a $200 donation to match the U.S. Windsurfing
monies and Paul will be able to buy trophies that our club members will
win…RIGHT!? It is also the
case that we have our R&RB Committee Chair for next year, the indomitable
Brian Kirchoff. Brian was so instructive
and ready to give help before, during and after EVERY event that he is a
natural to run the thing next year.
Thanks for being so supportive and offering up so many ideas as to how
to go about running the races Brian. Juanas: Sept 8, 9, 10th
This will NOT be a Southeast Series event.
Paul has an update on the series races and looks forward to giving Juan/ Lessons: They’re still
going on. $$$$$: Wright Finney says
we have 5 grand plus in the CD and $2786.52 in the checking account
coffers. That said….. Here’s the gist of
the conversation regarding the (Do call Dave “ 1 The Christmas
Party is the most expensive event that the club puts on. No
sh-t it’s meant to be a celebration of the fact that we’ve all made it though
another year of great windsurfing and camaraderie! 2 The event
generates no money. We
make enough money throughout even the toughest years to at least keep $7,000 in
the bank at any given time! What? Do we
limit any expenditure if we don’t have $7,000
in the bank!? 3 “This Commodore
wants to make a change”, leave a legacy so to speak. So
what did you do while you were Commodore?
Oh, I made sure that we always had $7,000
in the bank! 4 The suggestion
was made by the “$7,000 in the bank!” club that we treat this year’s Holiday
Party as a “bottle club” event. That’s
right, BYO and stock the bar! So
let me get this straight…the club rented the location but won’t put up another
couple hundred $$$ to finish the deal. 5 Oh, the “$7,000
in the bank!” club will pay for ICE, setups, food (Which we all bring anyway) and Bartenders (Whom would make enough off
tips if we didn’t have to spend so much on stocking the bar!) 6 There will be a
vote on the motion that the club will provide setups, Ice, food,
Bartenders. Club Members in good
standing are encouraged to turn up with a pack/bottle. Elections: The following club
members are running for these positions: Commodore: Amy
Crowson Vice : Lee Chapin Purser :Wright Finney Scribe : Ann Getman At Larges : Linda Downey Rick Kneer Jack Maybe Perry Morris Tina Mazaneck New Business: The next club
meeting will be at Beef O’Bradys on Tues, Sept 12th. The next Board meeting will be Tues, Sept 19th. We had a new
member sign up and PAY to the “$7,000 in the bank!” club; Sally Anderson has
joined and will be looking for lessons and fine camaraderie at the beach! As the scribe for
the Shell Point Sailboard Club I’d just like to say that I try not to slant any
articles with my opinion. As such I
recommend that if YOU have an opinion YOU can voice it here in the Scribe’s
space and that way you will be able to voice YOUR opinion. I am a river to my people, talk to me and you
will be heard. And now for
something completely different….. |
